‘CADUCEUS /kəˈdjuːsiəs/. Real Medicine 2020’
Ink and watercolour on cotton rag
27” x 21”

——————-

Medicine. Real medicine.
Is this a chance to heal what was broken?
A break from norm that was broken.

Artist’s log, 9 June 2020:

Arising from two recent snake 🐍 visits from the same black snake at home – the first visit at my outdoor workshop at dusk, and the second the following evening just after midnight, between my studio and bedroom door…

I’ve learned to take visits from animals quite seriously, as it’s guided me quite a few times – as premonition, a teaching reminder (mostly to either slow down or tune-in), or a primer for what really matters.

Extract:
The Rod of Asclepius is an ancient Greek symbol associated with medicine, consisting of a serpent coiled around a rod. In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Asclepius was the god of medicine and healing.

The modern use of the caduceus as a symbol of medicine (as a rod with two instead of one snake) became established in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th century as a result of documented mistakes, misunderstandings and confusion.
